Hongqiao airport: Adequate measures in place for increasing passenger flows

Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport has released the nation's first standards on epidemic prevention and management with a full description of protection measures to ensure the safety of increasing passengers upon the arrival of summer vacation.

The domestic passenger flights and passenger traffic volume of Hongqiao airport have both rebounded significantly as the epidemic control of COVID-19 shows a generally positive trend in China, reaching about 90 and 70 percent of the same period last year respectively.

The number of passenger flights had reached an average of 630 per day by the end of June and up to 714 will be scheduled on July 10. With the end of the college entrance examination and the gradual recovery of travel confidence and demands, passengers are expected to maintain a further resumption of growth.

A variety of effective protective materials equipment and disinfection procedures have been strengthened at Hongqiao airport. All on-site staffs have to wear masks and those who need to contact passengers are urged to carry out self-protection measures including wearing gloves, hats, and eyewear. Other efforts to prevent and control the epidemic include body temperature monitoring and disinfecting all work and rest areas. All the check-in counters at the airport have hand sanitizers available for passengers. The staffs at the manual counters for security inspection and unpacking of luggage must disinfect their hands every ten minutes to provide a safer environment for passengers.

Passengers will be able to complete automatic identification and clearance with personal health QR codes. And they can also buy epidemic prevention items such as masks and hand sanitizer spray at a fair price at the two terminals.

Hongqiao airport will also makes great efforts to shorten passengers' queuing time. It plans to launch a fast channel in T2 for passengers with one piece of carry-on luggage and provide group check-in service. In addition, renovation of Island C of the Check-in Area at Hongqiao Terminal 2 will soon be completed, and as many as 18 sets of new self-service luggage check-in kiosks will be put into service this August.
